i-VISTA demostration zone

Background

i-VISTA (Intelligent Vehicle Integrated Systems Test Area) is a public service platform for intelligent vehicle and intelligent transportation application demo project and product engineering jointly built by MIIT and Chongqing Municipality. It is also the first integrated test and demo area of intelligent networked vehicles officially put into operation in China with the support of the Electronic Department of MIIT.

The test zone of i-VISTA intelligent vehicle integration system is divided into three phases. Phase I is the closed intelligent connected vehicle and intelligent transportation public service platform, which was completed and put into use on November 15, 2016, with an area of 3.5km2 and a total road mileage of about 5km; the second phase is the construction of the semi-closed 5G autopilot application demo and sharing service platform, which was completed in 2017-2018, with a built area of two km2 and a total road mileage of about 20km; the third phase is an autopilot open road platform based on C-V2X which under construction, with a built area of about 1.8km2 and a total road mileage of 20km. From closed area, controllable opening to open roads, a total of 7.3km2 and 140km large-scale demo networks is built to lay the foundation for the construction, testing and operation capacity of VICS large-scale test application.

Construction results

Since 2015 when the company undertook the project of jointly constructing demo zone together with relevant ministries and municipalities, the company has got into cross-industry cooperation with large SOEs, transnationals, and high-tech companies including telecom enterprises, equipment enterprises, service providers and infrastructure builders such as telecom operators (China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom), CICT, Huawei, Toyota, Honda, Chang'an, Ford, Hyundai, PSA, Dongfeng, Mira, HEXAGON, etc. The company has successively built the virtual simulation test, laboratory test, closed, semi closed and open road test environment for advanced auxiliary driving system, V2X, autopilot and intelligent transportation, so as to meet the requirements of safety, comfort, energy conservation and environmental protection, road traffic adaptability, information service and entertainment demands of application test demo, such as traffic management, thus covering more than 90% of the special road conditions in the western region, and 85% of the road environment and communication environment in the whole country. At the same time, seize the opportunity of intelligent connected innovation and development, pool the strength and actively lead or participate in the formulation of national and industrial standards, closely unite the strength of colleges and universities, research institutes, leading enterprises and other parties to speed up the formulation of standards driven by technology, and deepen the core position of the industry.

Future plans

In February 2020, NDRC, the CPC Central Committee Internet Information Office and other nine ministries and commissions jointly issued the Intelligent Vehicle Innovative Development Strategy. The introduction of this strategy indicates the overall idea of building a large-scale leading area of the IoV in China. It caters to the goal that the development of China's IoV industry is in the transition from regional test demonstration to large-scale application leading area. At present, all regions have built IoV testing environment based on cellular network in many scenarios such as closed test park, semi-open roads, open roads and highways. As a result, it is urgent to build more rich scenarios of the leading IoV areas.

Build the IoV leading application environment the scene test and verification platform: i-VISTA concentrates on building the leading application scenario, the leading standard and specifications, and promoting the implementation of IoV industry. It plans to build a complete VICS environment and IoV application system with complete elements of “people, vehicles, roads and clouds”, and makes full use of the special scenes of western Chongqing to carry out IoV multi-scene and scale test verification and application demo of high-precision maps, high-speed and urban autopilot, urban public transport, and integration of land, water and air intelligent logistics. Taking the opportunity of Chongqing building “smart Liangjiang”, improve the penetration rate of IoV application, promote the scale application of the IoV and intelligent transportation, and focus on improving the level of urban traffic management, intelligent safety of vehicles and convenience of residents’ travel.

In terms of commercial promotion, with the IoV commercial application as the goal, we should build a collaborative management mechanism and cooperation mechanism that involve government departments, constructors, operators and other businesses, formulate policies and measures to support the application of new products and services, and establish complete standard system of IoV connectivity, information interaction, information security and data interface, Establish shared data resource database and big data platform, realize information sharing and data value-added services of cross-industry and cross-department data management platform of IoV, and try to identify emerging business models and solve problems such as IoV, social promotion laws and regulations of autopilot and insurance application services.

In terms of industrial agglomeration and service, rely on the strong foundation of automobile industry of Liangjiang New Area in Chongqing, as well as the abundant automobile industry resources and solid technical foundation of CAERI, build the cooperation ecology of upstream and downstream IoV industrial chain, and construct the in-depth collaborative system for production, education, R&D and application. Depending on the established company of IoV (ICTC), and make innovations of new business models of intelligent connected vehicles, VICS and intelligent transportation integration, and provide integrated services such as investment & construction, technical research, test evaluation, commercial operation and data added value. Each year, provide consultancy service and data service for at least 100 enterprises and 50,000 vehicles.

Carry out pilot tests of intelligent connected technologies, products and applications, so as to promote the industrial integration and transformation of innovative technical achievements, facilitate the rapid promotion of IoV, jointly promote the industrial maturity and commercial deployment of V2X, and promote the rapid development of China’s IoV industry.
